Job Description

Extended Day teachers will help plan and execute daily activities for students in a safe and nurturing environment and assist with the daily operations of the program. Extended Day teachers will work as members of a collaborative team to deliver a program that is child-centered and focused on enriching the school experience for our students. Part of this program is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) 

Essential functions, duties, and responsibilities:

1. Covers classes for grades PS-8, delivers the curriculum and executes the lesson plan as directed by the teacher.
2. Communicates the highest scholastic, ethical and behavioral standards to students through consistency in behavior and support and caring for all students, and in using the classroom as a place for exploration, discovery, experimentation and application. 
3. Is consistent with the school’s mission and philosophy, exercises judgment and supervision of students consistent with the teacher’s role of “in loco parentis”.
4. Ensures appropriate management of the classroom environment that inspires learning. 
5. Interacts with all school constituencies including employees, senior administration, students, and parents. 
6. Plans and executes after school programming from the hours of 3:00pm - 6:00pm.
7. Maintains optimal physical Club Ed classroom spaces in accordance with licensing requirements.
8. Provides teaching and programming support in Summer Studio.
9. Work a daily schedule of 9:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. 
10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Teaching experience required.
• Proven classroom management skills required.
• Elementary / Secondary school experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
